Axesat of Colombia Signs Contract for Capacity on Telesat’s New Anik G1 Satellite

May 31, 2013

Telesat, announced that Axesat SA, a premier provider of VSAT services in South America, has signed a long term contract for capacity on Telesat’s new Anik G1 satellite.

Anik G1 is a multi-mission satellite that began commercial operations earlier this month and is now providing communications services across the Americas. For South America, Anik G1 brings new C-band and Ku-band capacity to a region where Telesat has been capacity constrained. Anik G1 is co-located with Telesat’s Anik F1 satellite at 107.3 degrees West and effectively doubles both the C-band and Ku-band capacity serving South America from this orbital position.

“Axesat is a leader in South American VSAT services with over 6,000 sites and we are delighted with their decision to use the powerful Ku-band capacity of Anik G1 to serve their growing customer base,” said Nigel Gibson, Vice President, International Sales for Telesat. “The full continental coverage of Anik G1 using a single Ku-band beam provides operational efficiencies to Axesat that gives them an edge in delivering the very latest in satellite broadband performance to their customers.”

“Axesat’s growth has been driven by our focus and ability to deliver superior satellite based telecommunication solutions to our corporate and business customers across South America exceeding their expectations and service experience” said Mauricio Segovia, President, Axesat SA. “Now with the power and coverage of Telesat’s Anik G1, combined with the advanced capabilities of our terrestrial infrastructure, Axesat is well positioned to continue offering the highest levels of broadband performance for our corporate customers and build on our leadership position in the region.”
