Hughes Network Systems, LLC announced that it will demonstrate high-speed wireless 4G/LTE capabilities over satellite at the Naval Postgraduate School's field event on February 11-14, 2013 at Camp Roberts, California. The Joint Interagency Field Exploration (JIFX 13-2) will assess the potential for new capabilities to address the needs of combatant commanders and federal agencies. "Today's warfighters and emergency responders are taking advantage of new data capabilities to advance the mission, but the ability to deliver real-time video communications on-the-move with small, interoperable devices has been elusive," said Rick Lober , vice president and general manager of Hughes Defense and Intelligence Systems Division. "With this demonstration, Hughes is proud to provide an extensive military field-test of satellite-enabled 4G/LTE connectivity for video calls." Hughes will demonstrate wireless 4G/LTE transmissions employing satellite connectivity at download speeds up to 15 Mbps and upload speeds up to 2 Mbps, including video streaming, push-to-talk (PTT) communications and situational awareness. The JIFX event will be conducted in cooperation with operational representatives from each of the unified combatant commands and the Department of Homeland Security. At the event, representatives from government R&D organizations, academia and private industry will explore technologies to increase military capability, reduce costs and collaborate with partner nations and organizations.
