Inmarsat
announced the
availability of the
Remote Terminal
Manager, the
satellite industry’s
first solution to
provide management
and control over
unmanned M2M
terminals in the
field. Launched at
the DistribuTECH
Conference in San
Diego, the Remote
Terminal Manager
enables users of
Inmarsat’s M2M
portfolio services
to control their
devices remotely,
saving the time and
expense of having to
dispatch teams to
troubleshoot or
manually reboot
terminals.
The Remote Terminal
Manager incorporates
technology licensed
from Galaxy1, an
independent
satellite
communications
services provider
and member of the
Inmarsat partner
community.
“The Remote Terminal
Manager is an
incredibly useful
and money saving
tool that can be
used with a range of
Inmarsat M2M
services, including
BGAN M2M,” said
Gerbrand Schalkwijk,
Vice President
Enterprise Energy,
Inmarsat. “The
creation and launch
of this new,
value-added service
is a great example
of how partners can
work directly with
us to enhance
existing Inmarsat
services and, by
extension, create
new revenue streams
for both companies.”
Inmarsat M2M users
who deploy the
Remote Terminal
Manager will see a
map of their M2M
assets across the
globe and the status
of those terminals.
They will have the
ability to control
those terminals from
a single location,
saving time and
money and decreasing
their network
downtime.
A number of Galaxy1
customers already
use a form of the
application with
great success in
other capacities.
For example, R&M
Energy Systems, a
key supplier to the
oil and gas
industry, operates a
global SCADA network
based on Inmarsat’s
BGAN mobile
broadband satellite
service. With the
remote manager
technology, R&M is
able to have full
visibility of its
terminals and can
restart a monitoring
session remotely,
when required.
“The Remote Terminal
Manager technology
is an ideal
complement to the
Inmarsat M2M
portfolio given the
fact that terminals
in the field are
unmanned and
frequently in far
flung locations,”
said
Folef Hooft
Graafland, Sales
Director,
Galaxy1. “We’ve
deployed the
technology with
great success for
many of our clients
and we are pleased
to have the
opportunity to work
with Inmarsat within
this exciting new
partner framework,
all with the
end-user experience
in mind.”
