Skymira to Outfit Higman Marine’s Inland Tug Fleet with Dual Communication Capability

1 May 2012

Skymira LLC, has begun implementation of a dual communication capability for Higman Marine’s fleet of fifty seven inland towboats. The dual communication is designed to provide business continuity in the event of a natural disaster, such as a major hurricane.

Higman Marine, a leading provider of inland marine transportation services for bulk liquid petroleum and chemical cargoes, selected Skymira based on the firm’s experience and ability to rapidly deliver tailored solutions leveraging Skymira’s portfolio of hosted off-the-shelf mobile business applications.

In order to assure business continuity during natural disasters, Skymira is utilizing the recently launched ISATData Pro service and Skywave’s IDP680 terminals. These terminals will allow for email communication via satellite in the event the cellular network along the Gulf of Mexico is severely impacted by a major hurricane. The application will also allow for GPS fleet tracking. ISATData Pro is a cost-effective solution that delivers significantly greater performance over other services in the market.

“Communication is vital to the continuity of our operations,” said Gordie Keenan, Vice President, Higman Marine. “Now in the event of a natural disaster, we can assure the performance of our operations and safety of our crews through uninterrupted communication,” Keenan added.
