Hughes Europe Provides Bentley Walker with Additional Hub to Support Expansion into South America

02 February, 2010

Hughes Europe, has announced the sale of a seventh HX hub to leading international satellite Internet services provider, Bentley Walker, as it expands its solutions and service footprint into the Caribbean and South America for the first time.

The additional Network Operations Centre (NOC) on the AB1 satellite is the first to be deployed on the new SkyLogic teleport situated in Cagliari, Sardinia. It enables Bentley Walker to offer a compact and cost-effective satellite solution for large and small networks provide high Quality of Service (QoS) in another emerging market lacking an established communications infrastructure and offering huge potential.

This represents the first deployment of the HX system in South America. The Hughes platform employs the most efficient implementation of the DVB/S2 industry standard including Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) and is fully compliant with IPoS (IP over Satellite), the first global satellite industry standard approved by TIA in North America, and ETSI and ITU in Europe. As part of this, specialised QoS and advanced proprietary TCP/IP compression are designed to deliver faster broadband downloads compared to unprocessed feeds.

For Anthony Walker, CEO, Bentley Walker, this initiative offers the opportunity to maintain its technology lead working with Hughes Europe.   “Our goal is to build on the success we have already established in a number of key markets,” he says.

“We have already proved very successful, for example, in providing villages in Africa and UK and US soldiers in the Middle East with flexible, cost-effective voice and data services,” he confirms. “There is no doubt that South America is a natural progression for us, as another emerging market which remains significantly underserved by existing terrestrial and other broadband services.”

Christopher Britton, managing director, Hughes Europe agrees and adds: “Our two companies have an impressive track record in working together to identify new market opportunities and responding with a unique portfolio of highly scalable satellite Internet services.

“In particular, as the demand from domestic and commercial users continues to grow in this region, the combination of Hughes’ robust and flexible technology backed by Bentley Walker’s unrivalled quality of commercial and business support makes us ideally placed to take full advantage of this exciting market opportunity.”
