Newtec Wins Major U.S. Government Order For FlexACM

10 Aug. 2010.

Newtec announced a multi-million dollar order from a major government prime contractor in the United States for its FlexACM® technology for IP trunking satellite links. The installation, comprising Elevation EL470 Satellite IP modems with FlexACM technology in 1:1 and 1:4 redundant configurations, will form the core of an entirely new infrastructure for the project.

“This major contract is the largest single installation to date of Newtec’s FlexACM technology, and a very significant milestone in its transition to become the system of choice across the international marketplace,” says Serge Van Herck, Newtec CEO. “FlexACM offers many unique features and its ability to double data throughput makes it a compelling solution for IP trunking and IP backbone applications.”

FlexACM combines a range of cutting edge technologies for implementing Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), traffic shaping, payload compression and IP acceleration in a highly efficient way. The integrated unique patent-pending Noise and Distortion Estimator (NoDE) provides accurate monitoring of the satellite link quality and enables optimum usage of satellite transponders. In addition to on average doubling the capacity of an existing link, FlexACM guarantees the highest availability of link reception even during heavy rain fade, making it ideal to use on Ku-band and Ka-band links.

“Important contract wins such as this one confirm that Newtec products and solutions are uniquely qualified to support the needs of government and military customers. The reliability of Newtec equipment together with the efficiency of FlexACM technology allows for significant optimization of satellite transmission and ensures 100 percent link availability,” says Slava Frayter, Newtec Vice President Sales, Americas.

Newtec’s Elevation IP modems are designed for the efficient transmission of IP over satellite at rates from 256 Kbps to 160 Mbps in full compliance with DVB-S2 standard (including 16APSK and 32APSK), and support a wide range of encapsulation protocols, such as data piping, MPE, ULE and XPE (Extended Performance Encapsulation). They can be used in point-to-point or point-to-multipoint architecture in one way configurations with terrestrial return channels or two way configurations with return channel over satellite.

FlexACM is available on Newtec’s Elevation product family, which consists of DVB-S2 IP satellite modulators, demodulators, modems and satellite IP appliances.
