SES S.A. has signed a long-term, multi-transponder deal with Puerto Rico Telephone, a subsidiary of América Móvil, to deliver its CLARO TV premium DTH television offering to homes across Puerto Rico.

As part of the deal, Puerto Rico Telephone is using five Ku-band transponders aboard SES WORLD SKIES’ AMC-21 satellite to launch its CLARO TV offering. The new television offering, which features over 130 SD and HD channels in Spanish and English, is a powerful addition to Puerto Rico Telephone’s broadband, wireless and landline phone services.

“With the addition of television to our voice, internet and wireless service offerings, we solidify our position as the leading full service provider on the island,” said Mario Barrera, Chief Operating Officer, Puerto Rico Telephone. “We have developed a state-of-the-art facility to deliver the best entertainment option in the market, with a superior voice and video offering, and better programming in English and Spanish,” added Barrera.

“We feel very proud that Puerto Rico Telephone has entrusted SES WORLD SKIES to carry its video DTH offering and to play a role in their success. We are investing in new satellites for the Latin America and Caribbean region and are pleased to be able to support market leaders like PRT in the execution of their business plans,” said Scott Sprague, Senior Vice President of Global Sales for SES WORLD SKIES. “For Puerto Rico Telephone, the AMC-21 satellite provides the high power they need to implement the new DTH offering with an impressive channel line-up to very small receiver dishes at customers' homes. SES WORLD SKIES has a history of serving Latin America and the Caribbean region and will continue to have a leading role in providing satellite infrastructure for the implementation of innovative applications to millions across the continent,” he added.
