Hughes Announces Availability of SCADA IP Satellite Terminal

22 February 2010

Hughes Network Systems, LLC announced the availability of its 9201-M2M terminal that provides a single, universal SCADA solution operating over Inmarsat's BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network) satellite service. Rugged and easy-to-use, the Hughes 9201-M2M is fully IP-compatible and is configured for self-contained SCADA operation via a standard Ethernet interface.

Ideal for the oil, gas, and utility industries, the Hughes 9201-M2M can be readily packaged for continuous monitoring and control of remote sites, such as well automation, pipeline monitoring, utility SmartMeter backhaul, and backup to VSAT networks. Compact and versatile, the 9201-M2M is a highly secure, cost-effective, and "always-on" SCADA solution for a wide range of traffic sites handling kilobytes, megabytes or even gigabytes of data. Customers may also choose to apply the terminal's inherent two-way SMS interface for expanded remote command and control.

"As we approach 10,000 terminals in service worldwide, the Hughes 9201 BGAN terminal has proven itself to be highly robust for mission-critical interactive applications in the most demanding environments," said Graham Avis, vice president and general manager of Hughes San Diego. "Our new machine-to-machine, self-contained version of this versatile terminal builds upon its successful operation as a high-speed, fully IP-compatible BGAN terminal to address the countless unattended SCADA remote sites worldwide which need reliable, real-time monitoring and control."
