1 February 2010
International Datacasting Corporation has received a contract from the Canadian Department of National Defence, (DND), valued at $2.8 million CDN for the continued operation of Canadian Forces Radio and Television, (CFRT). The contract represents the first of two renewal options that are part of the overall contract that IDC won in a competitive tender process in December, 2008.
"This marks the tenth consecutive year that IDC has provided this service to our troops serving overseas and we are honoured to be able to continue to provide the high quality radio and television programming that our troops have come to rely on," said Ron Clifton, IDC President and CEO.
The Canadian Forces Radio and Television (CFRT) network delivers entertainment programming, sports and news over two television channels (English and French) as well as FM radio. IDC provides the service to Canadian Forces and peacekeeping troops deployed in regions around the globe including the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Africa. Today CFRT serves Canadian Forces stationed in Afghanistan and in other areas around the world.
IDC is responsible for all aspects of programming including negotiating rights and permissions, scheduling, recording, and uplinking the network from its Ottawa based network operations centre.
