Maritime Communications Provider Contracts for Capacity on Telstar 11N Satellite
January 25, 2010
Harris Corporation, has signed a multi-year agreement for Atlantic Ocean Region capacity on Telesat’s new Telstar 11N satellite.
Harris Maritime Communications Services (MCS) selected Telstar 11N to launch its next generation maritime broadband services. The company’s customers have access to the latest high speed IP communications – voice, internet access and corporate data – while on the high seas. Harris MCS is landing the Telstar 11N service at their Primary Teleport in Melbourne, Florida.
“Our maritime customers, such as Carnival Corporation, expect a broadband service that provides passengers and crew with communications that are comparable to what they would experience on land,” said Rick Simonian, president, Harris MCS. “iDirect’s platform was part of the solution but we could not implement it for the Atlantic crossings without Telstar 11N’s superior Atlantic coverage combined with the satellite’s outstanding performance.”
“Our congratulations to Harris on launching this next generation broadband service to ships operating in the Atlantic,” said Nigel Gibson, Vice President, International Sales for Telesat. “Telstar 11N has become a premiere satellite for mobile broadband and we look forward to working with Harris on implementing further innovations for the maritime market.”
