Aerolíneas Argentinas Selects Multi Orbit Inflight Connectivity

The Argentinian flag carrier has selected Eutelsat OneWeb’s distribution partner Intelsat and their multi-orbit inflight connectivity service for their fleet of 18 Airbus A330 and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

The Argentinian flag carrier has selected Eutelsat OneWeb’s distribution partner Intelsat and their multi-orbit inflight connectivity service for their fleet of 18 Airbus A330 and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The airline will become the first in Latin America to offer service using Intelsat’s new electronically steered array (ESA) antenna, the airline will also be the first to install the multi-orbit capable antenna on a widebody aircraft.

The ESA terminal is the first to enable hybrid satellite connectivity, giving airlines the option to seamlessly shift between existing GEO constellations and the high throughput and low latency capabilities of the OneWeb LEO network. Engineered in partnership with Stellar Blu Solutions and incorporating Ball Aerospace’s modular scalable subarrays, the multi-orbit ESA will transmit data via Intelsat’s GEO satellites as well as Eutelsat OneWeb’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation.

Commenting on the announcement, Ben Griffin, VP Mobility said “This announcement is further validation of both our multi-orbit and our industry-led ‘go to market’ strategies. By leveraging the power of existing GEO networks and augmenting them with the clear benefits of LEO we are finally able to deliver today’s digital airline and digital passenger with a robust, resilient and truly global inflight connectivity service. Airlines worldwide are increasingly receptive to our ‘for the aviation industry, by the aviation industry’ approach in which we leverage the expertise, know-how and global support networks of our world class partners such as Intelsat. This is a significant milestone in our journey to deliver our connected aviation services.”
